BATH, Maine — A woman who served for two months as an officer for the Thomaston Police Department before being involved in a car crash, was sentenced Friday for drunken driving.
Kristal Clark, 24, of Woolwich was terminated from her employment with the department shortly after the incident that occurred June 17, 2015, in Woolwich.
Clark appeared Friday in Sagadahoc Superior Court in Bath, where she pleaded guilty to operating under the influence, according to District Attorney Geoffrey Rushlau. Clark was sentenced to 72 hours in jail, which she will serve in October through the alternative program for first-time offenders.
The former officer was also fined $750 and had her motor vehicle license suspended for the mandatory minimum of 150 days, the district attorney said.
The jail term was required because the OUI resulted in a crash.
The Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office had previously told the BDN that Clark was headed south on Route 1 shortly before 10 p.m. in a 2009 Chevrolet when she crossed the center line into the northbound lane. A 2008 Honda, driven by 56-year-old Sarah Bright of Freeport, was headed north and was unable to avoid Clark’s car. The two vehicles collided in the northbound lane. Clark’s car continued onto the shoulder and came to rest after striking the guardrail, Strout said.
Bright was uninjured and Clark was taken to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick with minor injuries. There were no passengers in either car.
