BELFAST, Maine — Belfast police said Officer Eric Kelley and Sgt. Brian Lunt responded to a report of an unwanted guest Monday night.
The situation occurred when a woman was making her way down Edgecomb Road and noticed a family of raccoons walking along the roadway. Police say she stopped to admire the family as they waddled around.
“I can only imagine the sight was as cute as it could be,” McFadden said in a Facebook post.
Police say one of the young raccoons decided it would climb up into the wheel well of the woman’s car and stay for a while.
“Blowing the horn, coaxing with granola bars and the normal friendly attempts you might expect to get the critter out of there didn’t work,” McFadden said.
Officers responded and police said that with some gentle persuasion they removed the little guy from its hiding place. The little raccoon was reunited with the rest of the family and they went along their way.
“Please keep this little family of raccoons in mind when traveling down the Edgecomb Road. I’m sure it’s not going to be the last time they venture out into the roadway,” McFadden said. “A policeman’s job is hardly ever routine.”
