GOULDSBORO, Maine — Firefighters with the town’s fire department and rangers with the Maine Forest Service are responding late Tuesday afternoon to a wildfire next to Route 1.

Hancock County Emergency Management Agency and the forest service each posted information to their online social media accounts alerting the public about the fire.

“Please be advised of a large wildfire in Gouldsboro adjacent to U.S. Route 1,” Hancock County EMA posted on Facebook a few minutes before 5 p.m. “Please avoid the area if possible and please be cautious of both firefighters and response equipment in the vicinity. The fire is east of the Ashville Road, before Route 186.”

On its Twitter account, the Maine Forest Service indicated it had a ranger at the fire scene.

“Ranger and Gouldsboro firefighters are off at a wildfire on Route 1,” the agency posted. “[Helicopter] on standby.”

Additional information was not available early Tuesday evening.
