SANFORD, Maine — Three local women and a local man are facing an aggravated heroin trafficking charge in connection with six recent overdoses in town, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

Arrested Thursday was Ashlyn Smith, 26, who is facing two counts of aggravated heroin trafficking. Arrested on June 2 were Ian Blow, 25, Samantha Barnett, 25, and Stephanie Meunier, 26, all of whom are facing one charge of aggravated heroin trafficking, McCausland said.

Over the last two months, agents with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency’s York District task force have been investigating the sale of heroin by the quartet, McCausland said.

Blow, Barnett and Meunier were detained after a traffic stop in Lebanon on June 2 upon returning from Lawrence, Massachusetts, with heroin to be sold in the Sanford area, and 25 grams of a heroin/fentanyl mix were seized. All three remain in the York County Jail on $25,000 bail.

Arrest warrants for Smith were obtained as a result of undercover purchases, and drug agents and Sanford police took her into custody Thursday. She is being held on $50,000 cash bail in county lockup.

The case remains under investigation, and more arrests are likely.
