PARLIN POND TOWNSHIP, Maine — A Route 201 bridge that had been closed to traffic and forced a long detour reopened Thursday, officials said.
Heavy rains and local flooding had caused erosion, forcing the closure of the Parlin Pond Bridge in northern Somerset County, according to Department of Transportation spokesman Ted Talbot.
Crews worked Wednesday afternoon into the morning hours of Thursday to open the bridge with a gravel roadway, Talbot said.
Paving is scheduled to take place Friday.
The closure forced a 100-mile detour via Route 6 to Greenville, then south to Abbott and along Route 16 back to Route 201, according to Talbot.
The National Weather Service’s Gray forecast center reported 7.16 inches of rain fell in that area in a five-hour span Wednesday.
