MILLINOCKET, Maine — A Kingman man was seriously burned Friday when diesel fuel ignited at his construction worksite on the Golden Road, Millinocket Assistant Fire Chief Thomas Malcolm said.

Daniel Noble, 65, suffered burns on about 18 percent of his body.

The incident was reported at around 7 a.m., Malcolm said. Noble appeared to suffer burns to his chest, arms and head when the fuel ignited as he transferred fuel between two vehicles, he said.

Malcolm said he did not know how the fuel ignited or the name of the construction company.

Noble also was thrown to the ground and suffered a cut to his head, Malcolm said.

A workmate of Noble’s drove him in a pickup truck from their worksite to the Abol Campground on the Golden Road, where the Millinocket ambulance met them and took Noble to Millinocket Regional Hospital.

He was then flown by LifeFlight helicopter to the burn unit at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Malcolm said.

Noble’s condition was not available on Friday, an MMC spokeswoman said. The state fire marshal’s office was notified, Malcolm said.
