LEWISTON, Maine — A Lewiston woman died Saturday when the vehicle she was riding in veered off Pond Road and crashed into a tree, a Lewiston police official said Sunday.
Estelle Martel, 74, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Sgt. Wayne Clifford of the Lewiston Police Department.
Her husband, 80-year-old Normand Martel, who was driving the couple’s 2015 Toyota RAV4, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Central Maine Medical Center, Clifford said.
Clifford said that the crash happened about 5 p.m. near 105 Pond Road. The road was shut down for several hours because the accident was reconstructed, he said.
