BANGOR, Maine — Lincoln beat Houlton 5-2 and Holbrook shut out Orono-Veazie 15-0 in opening-round games of the District 3 Junior League baseball all-star tourney Monday night at Mansfield Stadium.

Lincoln rallied for two runs in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead for good in the first game.

Randy McLeod singled to lead off the inning and Jackson Weatherbee followed with a walk. McLeod went to third on a steal of second and wild pitch, and scored on a wild pitch. Weatherbee stole second and then scored the winning run on Andrew Severson’s single.

McLeod recorded the win, allowing six hits and four walks over 6 ⅓ innings while striking out six.

Alex Tash singled twice to lead Lincoln.

Keegan Gentle sparked Houlton with an RBI double and two singles. Drew Foley chipped in with two singles.

In the second game, Will Whitman, Ben Spear and Trevor Pearson combined on a one-hit shutout and were backed by an errorless defense in the win for Holbrook.

Raiden Charity singled twice and drove in two runs to lead Holbrook while Josh Birch added an RBI double.

Lucas Souza Cunha singled for Orono-Veazie.

At Beal Field in Machias, the Machias all-stars rallied for four runs in the fifth inning to earn the District 1 victory.

Levi Campbell, Tristan Hicks and Caden Schwinn each singled for Machias. Pitcher Bryan Dennison struck out six batters and Ethan Libby struck out five.

Peter Keblinski singled twice for Ellsworth and Mike Palmer added a single.

Bangor 14, Penquis 0

At Dover-Foxcroft, Coffee News of Bangor’s Matt Smith pitched five scoreless innings, striking out four and yielding one walk, en route to a 14-0 American Legion baseball victory over the Rowell’s Navigators of Penquis Monday night.

Pacing the Bangor Comrades offense were Kyle Stevenson, Derek Fournier, and Jesse Colford with two hits each and Peter Kemble with three hits of his own, including a triple.

Brayden Miller, Tanner Strout, and Jeremy Richard each singled for Rowell’s Penquis Navigators.
