BANGOR, Maine — Firefighters said they were happy to see a couple of feline visitors on Wednesday at Central Fire Station.
While the family that lost its home to a fire Tuesday morning was able to get out safely, the pets were still inside when firefighters arrived to battle the blaze, the Bangor Fire Department said Wednesday in a Facebook post.
Jessie, the mother cat, was rescued upon arrival, and Bear, her kitten, was found a few hours later by firefighter Bill Wentworth.
An electrical malfunction was cited as the cause of the fire, which heavily damaged the home, officials said.
The Red Cross Disaster Action Response Team is aiding the displaced homeowners.
