DRESDEN, Maine — A 35-year-old Dresden man accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old runaway at a Delaware motel also faces federal charges.

Federal prosecutors allege that James I. Allen coerced or enticed the teen into sexual activity, recorded it, and produced and distributed child pornography.

Allen, who remains in custody at the Sussex Correctional Institution in Dover, Delaware, is scheduled to appear in Sussex County Superior Court in Delaware for a case review arraignment on Aug. 17 and again on Aug. 22 for a trial hearing, according to jail records obtained online.

Allen was arrested Feb. 1, 2015, at a Comfort Inn on Route 113 in Georgetown, Delaware, where he allegedly sexually assaulted the teen, according to The News Journal.

Allen was charged with three counts of second-degree rape, two counts of fourth-degree rape and sexual solicitation of a child.

The teen allegedly told police she met Allen on Facebook and had met him at the motel about a week earlier.

In October 2015, Allen was indicted by the federal grand jury on charges of production of child pornography, coercion and enticement of a minor, receipt of child pornography, possession of child pornography and transfer of obscene material to a minor. The crimes allegedly occurred over a seven-month period.

The government seized a laptop, external hard drive, cellphone, GPS, digital video camera and digital camera, five memory cards, a pink iPod and a notebook with notes relating to the teen, according to the indictment.

Allen was held at Sussex Correctional Institution after failing to post $230,000 cash bail, The News Journal reported in 2015. Allen was still there Wednesday.

Phone calls to the Delaware attorney general’s office and Delaware Assistant U.S. Attorney Edmond Falgowski, who is prosecuting the federal case against Allen, were not returned Tuesday or Wednesday.
