MOUNT DESERT, Maine — A longtime local tennis instructor and a boat company are teaming up to raise funds for an indoor tennis facility they hope to construct on Mount Desert Island.

The goal is to construct a four-court facility in the Bar Harbor village of Town Hill, according to people familiar with the concept, which also is expected to include practice rooms for private music lessons.

Dan Granholm, a tennis pro and music teacher, is the person spearheading the effort. A former tennis coach at MDI High School, he received initial approval for the project from the Bar Harbor planning board in 2014.

Granholm and John Williams Boat Company have organized a fundraising party that will take place Saturday, July 9, at the company boatyard, located in the Mount Desert village of Hall Quarry. The event, which will run from 3 to 8 p.m. and is open to the public, will feature $15 lobster dinners, children’s activities, live music, boat rides, tennis clinics and more.

An informational session on the proposal will be presented at the event.
