BANGOR, Maine — Bangor and Brewer all-star teams survived the losers bracket round on Saturday to state alive in the District 3 Junior League all-star baseball tourney in games at Mansfield Stadium.
Brewer eliminated Sebasticook Valley 6-5 and Bangor ousted Houlton 22-1 in five innings after Sebasticook and Houlton both won games earlier in the day as Sebasticook eliminated Orono-Veazie 11-2 in the first game and Houlton ousted Glenburn 11-0 in five innings in the second game.
Winners bracket games will be played in the next two days at Mansfield with Old Town taking on Lincoln at 7:30 p.m. Monday and Bronco/Hermon playing Holbrook at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
In Saturday’s first game, Sebasticook sent 14 batters to the plate and notched five hits in a 10-run third inning after trailing 2-1. Andrew Hopkins recorded two RBI singles in the inning while Josh Grozik added a bases-clearing double.
Grozik also chipped in with a sacrifice fly while Cody Marquis earned the win after allowing just one hit and three walks while striking out 13 in six innings.
Jackson Campbell singled for Orono-Veazie (0-2).
In the second game, Keegan Gentle pitched 4 ⅓ innings of shutout baseball to help Houlton secure the victory. He allowed three hits and three walks and struck out three.
Bradley Hotham backed up his pitcher with two singles and two RBIs while Derek Brown also singled twice and drove in a run. Jason Collett added two singles and Cameron Callnan smacked an RBI double.
Thomas Watson, Jake Thibodeau and Scotty Ferrie each singled for Glenburn.
In the third game, Brewer rallied with a run in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win. Connor Young scored the winning run when he beat a throw to the plate when Braiden Umel hit a bases-loaded grounder to shortstop.
Connor Young paced Brewer (1-1) with three singles and three RBIs while Chris Young chipped in with three singles and an RBI. Ryan Averill added two singles and an RBI.
Gabe Gilley and Cody Marquis each singled for Sebasticook (1-2).
In the day’s final game, Bangor sent 22 batters to the plate in the bottom of the second inning and scored 16 runs on 11 hits en route to the win.
Gage Moody sparked Bangor (1-1) with a triple, two doubles and five RBIs. Kevin Fish added three singles and an RBI while Bradley McLaughlin and Zach Burpee each chipped in with two singles and an RBI.
Gavin Vining singled twice and drove in a run for Houlton (1-2).

Lincoln, Holbrook post wins
At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor on Friday, Lincoln beat Brewer 16-7 and Holbrook defeated Bangor 6-3 in District 3 Junior League tourney action.
Lincoln erupted for a 10-run seventh inning, with eight of their nine hits, to break a 6-6 tie and earn the win.
Spencer Johnstone sparked Lincoln (2-0) with two singles and four RBIs while Andrew Severson chipped in with a double, two singles and an RBI. Reece Carter added a three-run double and Malcolm Slomienski smacked an RBI triple.
Connor Young notched three singles for Brewer (0-1) with three singles and an RBI. Marty Hewes contributed a double and single and Anthony Chiappone had two singles.
In the second game, Holbrook scored five two-out runs in the top of the sixth inning to snap a 1-1 tie en route to the win. Andrew Kiley tripled to center to start the rally and Will Whitman added an RBI double to highlight the inning that included three walks, an error, two wild pitches and a passed ball.
Raiden Charity led Holbrook (2-0) with three singles and an RBI.
Will Chubbuck doubled for Bangor (0-1).

At Brewer, Brewer defeated Bangor West 14-4, Bangor East beat Lincoln 21-1 and Old Town topped Hermon 10-2 in District 3 all-star tourney games Saturday for ages 9-10.
In the first game, Jack Mason recorded two doubles, a single and drove in three runs to lead Brewer. Braden Carr added a single, triple and three runs while Silas Keefe had a double, triple and two runs. Mason was also the winning pitcher.
Chase Caron singled for Bangor.
In the second game, Ryan Libby smacked a triple, double and two singles while scoring five runs to help Bangor East beat Lincoln. Cam Clay contributed with four singles, three runs and four RBIs while Jason Libby added four doubles, two RBIs and a single.
Connor Langerack had a double for Lincoln.
In the third game, Gabe Gifford, Grayson Thibeault and Jordan Craft combined on a no-hitter to give Old Town the win.
Lucas Moore sparked Old Town with a double, single, two runs and an RBI while Carson Ellis added a single, run and two RBIs and Brendan Mahaney had a triple and two runs.
