BANGOR, Maine — The community is invited to gather at West Market Square at 6 p.m. Wednesday for a vigil in support of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, who recently were shot by police, and the five Dallas police officers who were killed during a protest.
The event is being organized by the Bangor Racial and Economic Justice Coalition, which posted an invitation to participate on its Facebook page.
The focus will be on helping the community acknowledge the pain of the violence and figuring out what can be done about it.
“We are requesting a communitywide response to last week’s racism and violence,” the coalition said in a post announcing the vigil. “Join us as we grieve the violence against Philando Castile and Alton Sterling, the violence against the Black Lives Matter protesters and the violence against the Dallas Police Officers. Please join us and identify ways we can combat racism in our community.”
