ORRINGTON, Maine — The Northeastern Primitive Rendezvous, a townwide yard sale, a full moon canoe tour, a charity bluegrass festival and barbecue and a musical comedy show are among the events that will be featured at this year’s Old Home Week in Orrington from July 15 through 22.

Presented by the National Rendezvous and Living History Foundation, the Orrington rendezvous will take place at the historic Wiswell Farm at 109 River Road, according to the event’s organizers.

During the rendezvous, roughly 350 settlers will live in an encampment on historic Wiswell Farm, located at 109 River Road, where they will hold a living history reenactment of the pre-1840 rendezvous lives of the mountain men, fur traders, Indian tribes and others who used to gather once a year for trade and revelry.

The encampment will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, July 16 and 17, as well as on Wednesday, July 20.

On those days, visitors can take in programs featuring artisans, historians, musicians, tribal life and guest speakers.

Settlers will be selling their authentic foods and old-fashioned merchandise outside their tents and demonstrating musket shooting, while guests can test their hawk and knife throwing skills. Outside the gate will be a craft area filled with local vendors.

The first two public days will include a quilt and hooked rug show, while a tribal encampment will be happening on the third public day. Crafts and food will be available on all three public days.

Other events include tours of the Penobscot Energy Recovery Company and a bluegrass festival and a charity bluegrass festival and barbecue at the Curran Homestead on Saturday, July 16, a full moon canoe tour at the Fields Pond Audubon Center on the night of on Sunday, July 17 and a three-day, town-wide yard sale on the weekend of July 22, 23 and 24.

The suggested donation for admission is $5 for adults. Admission is free for children 12 and younger.
