BRISTOL, Maine — A Bristol man is out on bail after police say he killed his 6-month-old fox terrier with a pellet gun.
Shawn Wilkie, 41, told officers on Saturday that he was inside his Old County Road home when he heard two gunshots. He said he went outside to see that his dog was shot.
Authorities say that during the dog’s autopsy, it was determined that the dog was shot with a .177 caliber pellet gun.
Police say Wilkie owns a .177 caliber pellet gun, and later admitted to shooting his own dog while trying to hit a chipmunk.
Wilkie was arrested for aggravated cruelty to animals and transported to the Two Bridges Regional Jail. He was later released on bail pending an appearance in court.
