HAMPDEN, Maine — A local man and woman were arrested on multiple drug charges early Saturday morning after Hampden police executed a search warrant at their Old County Road home, a Hampden police official said Tuesday.

Arrested were Raymond Smith, 56, and Jeanne Turner, 53, both of Hampden, according to Sgt. Chris Bailey said.

Both are charged with trafficking in heroin, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia, Bailey said. The trafficking charge is a Class B felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.

Smith and Turner remained at Penobscot County Jail Tuesday night, where Smith is being held on $25,000 cash bail and Turner on bail set at $10,000 cash, Bailey said.

Bailey said that the arrests are the result of a monthlong investigation by the Hampden Police Department that led to the execution of a search warrant on Saturday.

The search warrant yielded about 30 grams of heroin, numerous items of drug paraphernalia and cash, Bailey said. The street value of the heroin is approximately $6,000, he said.
