BIDDEFORD, Maine — The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its search Tuesday evening for a swimmer who was reported missing around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday off Biddeford Pool.
The Coast Guard said a person was watching someone swimming and then couldn’t see that person, so they called 911. The person was seen swimming off Goldthwaite Lane.
The search was suspended pending further development at around 8:45 p.m. after crews saturated the search area for approximately five hours.
The search included a 29-foot rescue boat crew from Station South Portland, a 49-foot buoy utility stern loading boat crew from Aids to Navigation Team South Portland, and an MH-60 Jayhawk crew from Air Station Cape Cod.
In addition to Coast Guard crews, the Maine Marine Patrol, Biddeford Police Department, Saco Fire Department, and three divers from Maine State Police all searched the area.
No substantial leads were found and there are currently no correlating reports of a missing person in the area.
