ANSON, Maine — Police are searching for a driver after a couple was hit by a car in Anson.
Deputies said that just in the past few hours they have received new information as to who may have hit Alex and Jessica Conant. They were walking along Route 201 just after midnight with another couple when a car slammed into them, and then left them lying on the road.
Investigators say they’re currently looking for a late ’90s black Buick Park Avenue that should have some major front-end damage.
The Conants were rushed from the scene with severe head and leg injuries but are expected to survive. The couple they were walking with was able to call 911.
After interviewing them, deputies said they began looking for, and eventually found, an SUV they thought might be related to this hit-and-run.
But after executing a search warrant, police found new evidence leading them to the black Park Avenue.
The sheriff’s office said this is still an open investigation, and no arrests or charges have been filed yet, but they’re asking anyone with information to come forward.
As for the couple, they’re still recovering at a hospital in Portland and are expected to recover.
