BRUNSWICK, Maine — More than 7,500 homes and businesses lost power for 45 minutes Wednesday morning after a truck came into contact with a transmission line at the corner of Church and Greenwood roads in Brunswick.

Most of the 7,622 affected customers were in Brunswick and Harpswell, according to Central Maine Power spokeswoman Gail Rice, although others were in Freeport and Topsham.

The contact took place at 10:40 a.m., Rice said, although Brunswick police Lt. Tom Garrepy said officers did not respond to any crashes at the time. A CMP line worker went to the scene to evaluate, Rice said.

With traffic lights out along Pleasant Street, which carries a section of Route 1 through Brunswick, officers directed cars through what Garrepy described as a “very smooth” 45-minute period with no outage-related crashes.

Power was restored when CMP reset the line from its energy control center, according to Rice.
