ALBANY TOWNSHIP, Maine — Police say an elderly man was robbed, stabbed and thrown down the stairs.

Police say they received a call a little after noon Wednesday from an 82-year-old man who was going in and out of consciousness. When authorities arrived the man was struggling to crawl up his basement stairs.

The Oxford County Sheriff’s Department said it happened on Lynchville Loop in Albany Township.

The victim told officers a man broke into a second-story window, assaulted and stabbed him then threw him down a flight of stairs.

The man also told police several books and documents were stolen from his home.

He was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway where he was treated for stab wounds to his arms.

Police have not located the weapon used in the assaults, but they have interviewed a possible suspect in the case a 64-year-old Albany Township man. They have not made any arrests.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and they are not sure why this particular victim was targeted.
