A crewman from the fishing vessel Melinda Ann died after falling overboard while fishing near Englishman Bay near Jonesport on Saturday.

The man, whose name was not released, was unresponsive when pulled from the water, according to a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard.

A 29-foot Coast Guard rescue boat was already underway from the Jonesport station and diverted to the scene at about 1:50 p.m. Upon arriving, Coast Guard crew performed CPR and used an automated external defibrillator in an unsuccessful attempt to revive the man.

He was taken to Jonesport and met by emergency medical services personnel just before 2:30 p.m. Despite continued CPR, the man was pronounced deceased.

The incident remains under investigation.
