PORTLAND, Maine — A 23-year-old Portland man was taken to Maine Medical Center on Saturday afternoon after the bicycle he was riding struck the side of a car on State Street.

Devon Pease suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening in the crash, which took place about 1:45 p.m., according to a news release from Portland Police Lt. Cliff Strout.

Pease was riding north on State Street, against traffic, when his bike struck the driver’s side of a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu sedan driven by Idhle Gambale, 45, also of Portland, near the intersection of Cumberland Avenue, Strout said.

Gambale was not injured in the crash, which is under investigation by the police department’s traffic division.

State Street was closed for approximately 90 minutes after the crash and has since reopened.
