GLENBURN, Maine — Two local teenagers died in a single-vehicle crash on Route 15 Sunday morning, near the Bangor city line, Penobscot County Sheriff Troy Morton said in a news release.
The crash happened at 6 a.m., when the driver of a four-door Toyota Corolla lost control of the vehicle while traveling north along Route 15, leaving the roadway and striking several trees and splitting the vehicle in half.
The driver and a passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.
The deadly crash remains under investigation and a cause has not been determined. Route 15 in the area of the crash was shut down from 6 until 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
The names of those involved are not expected to be released on Sunday because police are working to notify next of kin, Morton said.
The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Maine State Police, the Glenburn Fire Department, G&H Ambulance and the Bangor Public Works Department.
