ROCKPORT, Maine — A Lincolnville woman was arrested Saturday, accused of stealing a car and burning it.
Melanie Vangel, 20, was arrested in Cape Elizabeth by local police and the Maine fire marshal’s office, according to Rockport and Camden police Chief Randy Gagne. She was charged with two counts of arson and unauthorized use of property, Gagne said.
The vehicle was stolen either late Friday night or early Saturday morning from Rockport. The car was later found torched in Cape Elizabeth.
Rockport police along with Cape Elizabeth police and the state fire marshal’s office continue to investigate the incident and more charges may be filed, Gagne said.
Vangel is being held at the Cumberland County Jail in Portland. Bail was set at $50,000 cash.
