BANGOR, Maine — A strong thunderstorm moving across central Maine has knocked out power to thousands of Emera Maine and Central Maine Power customers.
Emera Maine spokesman Bob Potts said around 4:30 p.m. that quarter-inch hail, strong, gusty winds and torrential rains were causing trees and branches to come down onto power lines.
As of about 4:30 p.m., nearly 7,000 CMP customers were without power, according to CMP’s website.
He said 2,145 Emera Maine customers were without service, from Kenduskeag north to the Lincoln and Lee area and as far west as Dover Foxcroft.
Line crews were being kept on duty past their normal working hours to repair damage and additional resources are lined up and readied as well, he said.
Potts urged customers to heed warnings from National Weather Service and other forecasters to ensure their safety, including remaining indoors and, if they must travel, slow down or pull over completely.
