MADAWASKA LAKE, Maine — State police say they are looking for the public’s help in identifying a driver who struck a 6-year-old boy when he ran out into the road last week.

A vehicle, possibly a white Chevrolet Malibu, was traveling west on South Shore Road in Madawaska Lake Township about noon Friday when the boy ran out into the roadway and was struck, according to a statement released Tuesday by Sgt. Jeffrey Clark of the Maine State Police.

Witnesses said the sedan was being operated by an elderly female, who did stop to check on the little boy. The boy’s grandmother took him to the hospital for minor injuries and he was treated and released, according to Clark.

“Troopers do not feel there was any ill intent on the driver’s part but need her information to complete the investigation,” the release states.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact the Maine State Police Troop F at 532-5400 and ask for trooper Travis Luce, the primary investigating officer.
