Brian Morgan provided a regular presence on the University of Maine men’s hockey team for the last three seasons.
Next winter, the center from Windham, New Hampshire, will be using his extensive experience with one of the Black Bears’ Hockey East opponents.
It was reported recently by theuconnblog.com that Morgan will play his senior season for the University of Connecticut. He is eligible immediately and doesn’t have to sit out a season because he is a graduate transfer.
The 6-foot, 188-pounder opted to transfer after completing his degree work at UMaine in three years. He graduated as a business double major in finance and management along with a minor in economics.
Neither UMaine head coach Red Gendron nor Morgan could be reached for comment on Tuesday afternoon.
Morgan appeared in 103 career games for the Black Bears, posting 17 goals and 15 assists. Last season, he matched a career best with six goals and added an assist in 36 games.
Morgan, who was UMaine’s fourth-line center, joins a UConn team that lost four seniors, including three forwards, along with sophomore first-round NHL draft choice Tage Thompson.
Next season, Morgan will have the chance to face his former UMaine teammates on two occasions. The Black Bears and the Huskies are scheduled to play on Jan. 12 and on Jan. 14, the latter of which is a “Frozen Fenway” contest in Boston.
Morgan arrived at UMaine after playing for the Indiana Ice and the Muskegon Lumberjacks. He previously was a member of two Eastern Junior Hockey League championship teams with the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs.
