AUBURN, Maine — A woman was stabbed multiple times in her Auburn home Tuesday night, and neighbors came to her rescue to hold her attacker back.

Police said the woman was stabbed multiple times inside her home on Clover Lane.

Witnesses told police the woman was chased outside by a man with a long kitchen knife. They heard him yell, “I’m going to kill you,” according to the Sun Journal.

Witnesses told the Sun Journal that the victim and the attacker were covered in blood. Several men from nearby houses ran and tackled the man to prevent him from further injuring the woman.

When first responders arrived, they ripped off the woman’s clothes to locate her stab wounds.

Auburn police arrested Eric Griffey, 44, and charged him with elevated aggravated assault.

The woman was rushed to Central Maine Medical Center, where she is listed in good condition.

Police said the couple’s 5-year-old son was home at the time of the incident. He has been placed with relatives.

Neighbors say the woman and Griffey moved into the house just two or three weeks ago.

Griffey is being held at the Androscoggin County Jail on $25,000 cash bail.
