SANFORD, Maine — A local man was arrested Wednesday night in connection with a Fourth of July day crash in which a pedestrian died, officials said.

William George, 41, has been charged with accident with death and operating after suspension, York County Sheriff William King said.

George is accused of driving a vehicle that struck and killed John Mullin, 47, of Massachusetts on Route 11 in Limerick.

King said in a prior statement that Mullin was walking along the sidewalk when a vehicle allegedly went up onto the sidewalk before striking him.

Additional charges are anticipated against George, who is being held on $1,000 cash bail at the York County Jail.
