PORTLAND, Maine — David Roseboom struck out Yoan Moncada for the final out and the Binghamton Mets defeated the Portland Sea Dogs 2-1 in a series finale in Eastern League baseball action Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field.

Moncada finished 0-for-5 with five strikeouts for the first time in his career as the Mets took three of four games in the series.

The Sea Dogs scored their only run in the second inning on a bases loaded sacrifice fly by Rainel Rosario to score Nate Freiman. Portland stranded nine runners and finished 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

Mets’ starter Tyler Herron (W, 2-1) allowed one run over six innings while walking one and striking out five.

The Mets took the lead with two runs on four hits off of Mitch Atkins (L, 2-5) in the fifth inning. LJ Mazzilli tied the game with a solo homer over the Maine Monster, then three batters later Phillip Evans grounded a two-out, RBI single to left and put Binghamton ahead for good.

Atkins allowed two runs on eight hits in six innings, walking two and striking out five.

Kevin McGowan worked two scoreless innings of relief for Binghamton and David Roseboom (S, 6) closed out the game with a scoreless ninth.

Mauricio Dubon went 4-for-4 with two doubles for Portland, his first career four-hit game in Double-A.

On Saturday night, the Mets scored three runs in the first inning, and held on for a 7-4 victory over the Sea Dogs in front of a sellout crowd of 7,368.

Tyler Pill (8-8) worked six innings on six hits and three runs to earn the win for Binghamton. Pill notched his 24th career win, becoming the franchise leader in victories.

David Roseboom worked a perfect ninth for his fifth save of the season. Binghamton’s Alberto Baldonado and Tim Peterson both had holds.

The Sea Dogs tied the game in the sixth inning on a two-out, two-run double by Tim Roberson, but Binghamton responded, scoring two unearned runs off Ty Buttrey (L, 0-8) in the seventh.

Nate Freiman brought the Sea Dogs within a run on a run-scoring groundout, cutting the deficit to 5-4. In the ninth, Williams Jerez yielded a two-run double to Jayce Boyd for the game’s final runs.

Portland starter Jalen Beeks allowed three runs in the first inning. Beeks worked five innings on four hits, three runs, five walks and four strikeouts. Beeks, Buttrey and Jerez combined to walk 10 batters.

Dominic Smith nailed a two-run single and L.J. Mazzilli added an RBI hit. Ryan Court went 2-for-2 and Andrew Benintendi picked up his 34th RBI in the third.
