LEWISTON, Maine — A Lewiston woman is recovering after Police said she was severely beaten Saturday afternoon during an attempted robbery at the store she was working at.

The incident happened just before 3 p.m. at The Vault craft beer and wine store on Lisbon Street. According to the store’s owner, the woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the incident and has since been released from the hospital.

“Aside from some wounds that are visible she’ll be OK,” owner Keith Tannenbaum said. “I’m sure that this was a pretty traumatic experience for her and I think that it will probably take some time to figure out.”

Lewiston Police said they believe the suspect is a white male but they declined to release any more information citing an ongoing investigation.

“There were people in and out of the store and there were other people here at the same time he was here and they saw him,” Tannenbaum said. “It just seems like he was waiting and unfortunately that’s what happened.”
