BRUNSWICK, Maine — Jean Skorapa, principal of Harriet Beecher Stowe Elementary School since it opened in 2011 and a 23-year employee of the Brunswick school system, has been hired as assistant superintendent in Regional School Unit 3, Brunswick Superintendent Paul Perzanoski announced Tuesday.

Skorapa, who was previously a teacher and curriculum coordinator in Brunswick, will oversee curriculum and grand programming in RSU 3, as well as sit on the superintendent’s cabinet, Perzanoski wrote in a letter to staff, parents and students.

Paul Austin, who left Brunswick schools last summer after nine years as the district’s director of student services, is superintendent in RSU 3.

RSU 3 is composed of the towns of Brooks, Freedom, Jackson, Knox, Liberty, Monroe, Montville, Thorndike, Troy, Unity and Waldo.

According to Perzanoski, Skorapa will assist Brunswick in preparing for the opening of schools and “provid[e] support for new initiatives that will begin in the fall.”

An interview and search committee made up of staff members, parents and members of the community and representatives of the school board will be formed as soon as possible to find a new principal, the superintendent wrote.
