PORTLAND, Maine — The Trenton Thunder scored five unanswered runs and defeated the Portland Sea Dogs 10-6 on Wednesday during an Eastern League baseball contest before a sellout crowd of 7,368 fans at Hadlock Field.

Trenton’s bullpen closed out the victory with 6 ⅓ scoreless innings on one hit and nine strikeouts. Travis Hissong (1-0) pitched 3 ⅓ scoreless innings for his first Double-A win.

Portland’s Ty Buttrey (0-9) suffered the loss after giving up four hits and two earned runs in two innings.

Portland grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a two-out RBI single from Ryan Court.

Both teams exchanged five-spots in the third inning, as Trenton took a 5-1 lead off Teddy Stankiewicz thanks to a three-run homer by Dustin Fowler.

Portland responded in the bottom of the inning with a two-run double by Andrew Benintendi, an RBI double by Nate Freiman, and an RBI single by Court off of Trenton starter Daniel Camarena.

Trenton tied it in the sixth. Michael O’Neill hit an RBI single to score Dante Bichette Jr. Two batters later with the bases loaded, Sebastian Valle scored on a wild pitch to put Trenton ahead for good 7-6.

The Thunder padded their lead with a run in the seventh with a two-run home run by Cito Culver off of Ben Taylor.
