BERWICK, Maine — The fire that claimed the life of a man on River Street early Monday morning was intentionally set, the state fire marshal’s office has determined.
The man who died was identified as Jon Kellar, 55, who lived alone at his River Street home, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said in a news release.
State fire investigators said Kellar poured gasoline throughout the house and blocked the doors to prevent firefighters from gaining access.
Reported at 2 a.m., the fire gutted Kellar’s house. His body was found inside, according to McCausland.
