BANGOR, Maine — A man from El Salvador pleaded guilty Friday in U.S. District to unlawfully re-entering the United States after having been removed from the country, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
Manual Antonio Guerra-Nolasco, 36, of Canton Matelapa, El Salvador, is being held without bail.
A sentencing date has not been set.
He was arrested May 30 after a traffic stop in Orrington when a Penobscot County deputy learned that the pickup truck Guerra-Nolasco was driving was not registered and that his California driver’s license had been issued in the name of another person, according to court documents.
Immigration records revealed that Guerra-Nolasco had been removed from the United States on Aug. 20, 2007, a press release issued Friday indicated.
He re-entered the country in November 2007, according to the complaint.
Guerra-Nolasco faces up to two years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He most likely will be deported after completing his sentence.
The investigation was conducted by the Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Border Patrol.
