ORLAND, Maine — An Ellsworth woman who suffered life-threatening injuries Wednesday in a head-on crash on U.S. Route 1 remained at Eastern Maine Medical Center on Sunday, according to a Hancock County sheriff’s deputy.

Eileen Dunn-Kell, 58, reportedly was in stable condition in the Bangor hospital’s intensive care unit, Deputy Eric McLaughlin said Sunday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Dunn-Kell’s missing Jack Russell terrier, Rebel, has been located.

Rebel, who ran off after Wednesday’s crash, was found Friday night at a family camp on Jacob Buck Pond in Bucksport waiting to be picked up, McLaughlin said.

McLaughlin said that the camp is about 6 miles as the crow flies from the crash site and that the dog had to traverse some rugged territory and several bodies of water to get to the camp.

Dunn-Kell was driving her Honda SUV on U.S. Route 1, also known as Acadia Highway, when she experienced a medical problem and crossed the centerline and traveled into the path of a Ford F-150 pickup driven by Denise Dusoe, 54, of Swanville.

After the crash, Dunn-Kell was flown by LifeFlight to Eastern Maine Medical Center, McLaughlin said.

He said that a 13-year-old boy who was one of three juveniles who were passengers in the pickup was taken by ambulance to EMMC for treatment of foot injuries. The other two minors, ages 5 and 10, were taken by family members to a local hospital treatment of minor injuries.

Wednesday’s crash happened about 2:50 p.m. about half a mile from the Big Apple store, McLaughlin said. Traffic was diverted around the crash site for about three hours before Acadia Highway was reopened to traffic.
