SANFORD, Maine — Officials are investigating a fire at the Family Dollar on Main Street that broke out Sunday afternoon.
According to a statement from Sanford police, crews called 911 around 5:40 p.m., when heavy smoke was seen in the rear of the store.
Crews were able to determine a small bundle of napkins on an end stand had been lit near the back of the store, the statement said.
The store was evacuated, and nobody was injured. Several patrons were in and around the store at the time.
The fire remains under investigation and Sanford police are working in conjunction with the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
