EAST WATERBORO, Maine — A man was crushed to death Friday morning upon opening a trailer containing excavation debris, officials said.

The debris that killed David Egan, 49, of Waterboro contained large tree trunks among other objects, York County Sheriff William King said.

Egan, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was working at G and F Septic, King said.

York County Sheriff’s Deputies summoned OSHA to investigate, which is standard protocol for all fatal industrial incidents. The investigation is ongoing.
