MEDWAY, Maine — An Eddington motorist and his passenger escaped serious injury Sunday morning when the car they were riding in hydroplaned on the Interstate 95 bridge spanning Salmon Stream, a Maine State Police trooper said Sunday afternoon.
The crash happened in the northbound lanes of I-95 when Henry Hunter, 70, hydroplaned in a heavy downpour near mile marker 246 about 9:15 a.m. and lost control of his 2015 Chevrolet, Trooper Ben Campbell said.
Campbell said that the car hit the guardrail along the traveling lane, ricocheted across the highway and struck the guardrail along the passing lane, coming to a stop perpendicular to the guardrail.
Though they were checked out by emergency medical personnel, neither Hunter, who suffered bruises to his arm, nor his passenger, 68-year-old John Walker, who complained of chest pain, required a trip to the hospital, Campbell said.
