BIDDEFORD, Maine — A man is accused of huffing stolen aerosol computer duster and crashing his car into the Wal-Mart in Biddeford, according to police.
Police say they went to the store Thursday morning and found a 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe had crashed into a yellow traffic post near the corner of the building at 50 Boulder Way.
The vehicle received significant front-end damage and the engine compartment was on fire when officers arrived, police say. Officers used a fire extinguisher in an attempt to extinguish the blaze before the fire department arrived.
Police say surveillance video shows the driver, 21-year-old Daniel Spear, passed out behind the wheel and crashed at a high rate of speed.
Police say surveillance video also shows 36-year-old Justin Wells inside Wal-Mart, where he allegedly stole at least two cans of aerosol computer duster.
Spear is suspected of huffing the stolen cans of aerosol computer duster before the crash, according to police.
The men were arrested and taken to the York County Jail, but later were released.
Police charged Spear with driving to endanger and shoplifting. Wells was charged with shoplifting
They both have extensive criminal histories, according to police.
