PORTLAND, Maine — The Portland Sea Dogs scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back, defeating the Trenton Thunder 9-6 in Eastern League baseball action in front of 7,124 fans on Friday night at Hadlock Field.

Portland got off to a hot start against Kyle Haynes (L, 1-2) with four straight hits to begin the bottom of the first, including a two-run double by Aneury Tavarez and an RBI single by Nate Freiman.

The Sea Dogs added two more runs in the third inning on back-to-back sacrifice flies by Ryan Court and Cody Decker to score Dubon and Tavarez.

Dubon and Tavarez struck for more in the fourth off of Haynes, with Dubon hitting an RBI double and Tavarez following with a triple to score Dubon and make it 8-1.

Dubon tied franchise records with three doubles and five hits. He finished with an RBI and three runs scored. It marks the second five-hit game of the season for Portland and Dubon’s second career five-hit game.

Tavarez’s triple was his 13th of the season and set a Sea Dogs team record with 46 triples this season, breaking the previous record set in 1995. Tavarez finished a homer shy of the cycle, going 3-for-5 with a double, triple, three RBIs, and two runs scored.

Keith Couch (W, 9-4) allowed one run on just three hits in six innings, walking two and striking out four.

Trenton rallied late off of Brandon Workman, who allowed five runs on six hits and a walk with one strikeout. Billy McKinney hit a solo homer for Trenton in the seventh and Dante Bichette Jr. added a three-run shot in the ninth to make it 9-5.

Austin Maddox entered the game in the ninth and allowed an RBI double to Miguel Andujar before closing the door to end the game.
