BANGOR, Maine — Bimbo Bakeries USA Inc. has initiated a voluntary recall of four Entenmann’s snack products because of the presence of small pieces of plastic that may pose a cutting hazard.

The problem resulted from a manufacturing failure at a contract manufacturer’s bakery in Illinois, the Horsham, Pennsylvania, company said Wednesday in a news release.

The products being recalled are the five-pack Entenmann’s Little Bites Fudge Brownies, the five-pack and 10-pack boxes of Chocolate Chip Muffins and the 20-pack Variety Pack containing fudge brownies, chocolate chip muffins and blueberry muffins.

Two of the affected products — the Little Bites Fudge Brownies and the Little Bites Chocolate Chip Muffins — were distributed in Maine, the company said.

Both have a “Best By” date of Oct. 8. In each case, the code number “3098” is printed next to the “Best By” date on the outside of the box. The products were distributed to retail stores over the last two weeks.

The company announced the recall after receiving consumer reports of plastic in products. One injury was reported. The Food and Drug Administration has been notified of the voluntary recall.

All recalled products are being removed from store shelves. No other Entenmann’s products are affected.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled product should dispose of it or return the product to its place of purchase for a full refund.

Consumers with questions may call the company at 800-984-0989.
