BANGOR, Maine — A local man is facing multiple charges after a hit-and-run crash in downtown Bangor Wednesday afternoon, a police official said.

The series of events leading to the arrest of Rickey Whitney, 39, of Glenburn, began at 4:30 p.m. when Bangor police were dispatched to investigate a crash at the corner of Exchange and Washington streets, Bangor police Sgt. Tim Cotton said.

Whitney had allegedly left the first crash scene in his pickup before crashing into a State Street building shortly after, Cotton said, and he subsequently fled on foot.

The other driver in the original accident went directly to Bangor police to report it, Cotton said. That driver’s name was not released.

A short time after the crash was reported, Whitney was taken into custody along the railroad tracks that run parallel to the Penobscot River, the sergeant said.

As a result of the investigation, Whitney is facing charges of domestic violence stalking, domestic violence reckless conduct, aggravated criminal mischief, driving to endanger and leaving the scene of an accident.

Whitney remained at the Penobscot County Jail Thursday.
