LIMERICK, Maine — A Limerick man was arrested on several charges after allegedly harassing a female motorist early Saturday morning, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.

Charles Freeman, 57, is charged with driving to endanger, terrorizing and violating the conditions of his release from a prior arrest. He is being held at the York County Jail until his video arraignment on Tuesday. His bail has been set at $5,000.

The series of incidents that led to Freeman’s arrest began about 1 a.m. Saturday, when a woman called the sheriff’s office because a vehicle had been following and harassing her since she left Standish.

Freeman reportedly followed the woman through the town of Gorham and continued to pursue her as she approached Limerick.

The woman said that Freeman had been trying to get her to pull over, police said. The woman also said that the vehicle behind her was being operated erratically and at one point, pulled alongside of her and tried to run her off the road.

The woman tried to drive away from her pursuer but he continued to follow her, accelerating to get real close, then backing off, the sheriff’s office said.

The frightened woman remained on the telephone line with dispatchers providing real time information about her location. Sheriff’s deputies interception the suspect vehicle on Burnham Road in Limerick.

Deputies said that Freeman and the victim were alone in their respective vehicles and there is no known connection between the two.
