TRENTON, Maine — A severe motor vehicle crash on Route 3 by Ellsworth Chainsaw has resulted in the road being shut down, according to officials.

Traffic between Ellsworth and Mount Desert Island is being re-routed onto Route 230, also known as Bayside Road, or onto Jordan River (Route 304) and Buttermilk roads.

Hancock County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the crash. According to a dispatcher, the crash was reported at 8:41 a.m.

Additional information about the crash has not yet been released. It was not clear how long Route 3 might be closed.
