BURNHAM, Maine — A convicted sex offender was arrested this week and charged with possession of child pornography.

Police acting on a tip Thursday searched the home of David Cook, 59, who lives on South Horseback Road in Burnham, according to a press release from Maine State Police spokesman Stephen McCausland. Members of the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security allegedly found images of child pornography while doing an initial search of Cook’s computer.

After his arrest, Cook was taken to Waldo County Jail in Belfast. His computer was seized and will be examined more thoroughly by computer crime lab personnel, according to McCausland.

Cook was convicted in 1990 of rape and gross sexual misconduct against someone under the age of 14. He was sentenced to six years in prison and also is required to register for the rest of his life with the Maine Sex Offender Registry.
