ORONO — The Eastern Maine Umpires Association will hold a free umpire clinic 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Jan. 15, 2017, at University of Maine’s Mahaney Dome. The daylong clinic is for current high school umpires, people interested in umpiring high school baseball or umpires looking to get training in game situations. HAMPDEN — Eastern Maine Board 111 of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials is offering a Prospective Officials Class for any individuals, 18 years of age or older, who are interested in becoming certified basketball officials. Individuals living in Hancock, Knox, Penobscot, Piscataquis and Waldo counties are eligible to take this class, which will be held 6-8:30 p.m. Sundays and Wednesdays, starting Sunday, Oct. 2, at Reed’s Brook Middle School, Room 164. BREWER — Brewer Youth Hockey and The Penobscot Ice Arena are co-sponsoring a series of four sessions of Try Hockey For Free for Girls at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at Penobscot Ice Arena, 90 Acme Road. BREWER — Brewer Youth Hockey is accepting registrations for its Learn to Skate/Learn to Play Hockey sessions. There will be two 12-week sessions this season. Participants can sign up for one session or both. Sessions will be held at 12:40 p.m. on Sundays, beginning Oct. 23, at Penobscot Ice Arena, 90 Acme Road. The cost is $75 per session. YMCA Warrior Fitness instructors Josh and Ali O’Keefe are team leaders. Get “pumped up” for a course filled with the world’s largest and most extreme inflatable obstacles ever produced. OLD TOWN — Penobscot/Piscataquis/Hancock Area Special Olympics will hold a benefit 5K road race at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at the Old Town/Orono YMCA in Old Town. The race is a fundraiser for the events that the area program puts on throughout the year. The race is being called Mickey’s 5K, commemorating Mickey Boutilier, the founder of Maine Special Olympics. Registration is $20, but will increase to $25 on Oct. 2. T-shirts are available for the first 75 registrants. Registration can be completed online at www.runinarace.com. BREWER — Brewer Federal Credit Union is sponsoring a 5K road race, 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at Brewer Federal Credit Union, 229 Dirigo Drive. All proceeds from the event will go directly to Make A Wish Maine. This event is open to runners of all abilities as well as walkers. Registration will be held 8-9:45 a.m. and costs $20. SKIING

BANGOR — The Penobscot Valley Ski Club will hold its annual ski and snowboard equipment sale 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, at Bangor Parks and Recreation, 647 Main St. New and used equipment including cross country and downhill skis, boots, poles, apparel, helmets and snowboards will be available at discounted prices. Bring used equipment to sell 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16. The cost to participate is $1 per item. Name your price and the club will sell it for you, less a 15 percent commission.
