SABATTUS, Maine — The first major Professional Disc Golf Association championship to be held in New England is set to get underway in Sabattus on Friday.
The association’s U.S. Women’s Disc Golf Championship starts Friday and runs through Sunday at the Sabattus Disc Golf Course.
The tournament is expected to draw more than 100 participants from around the United States and Canada, with nearly two-thirds of the field coming from outside of New England.
Proceeds from the tourney will benefit the Dempsey Center based in Lewiston, which improves the quality of life for those impacted by cancer.
An opening ceremony was scheduled for Thursday evening at the Hilton Garden Inn in Freeport.
