The University of Maine basketball teams will help kick off the start of the 2016-17 season on Tuesday when they host “Meet the Bears” and “Select-A-Seat” night.

Coach Richard Barron and the Black Bear women’s team and the men’s squad directed by coach Bob Walsh will team up for a youth basketball clinic starting at 6 p.m. on their home court at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Participants will receive a coupon for a personal pan pizza from Domino’s and will have the chance to get team posters autographed after the event. To register for the free clinic, email GoBlackBears@yahoo.com.

Basketball fans who renew their season memberships by Oct. 25 or purchase a new membership, beginning on Oct. 25, will have the opportunity to personally select their seats at the Cross Insurance Center. Anyone who purchases a season membership on or before Oct. 25 will be entered into a raffle in which one lucky seat holder will win $1,000.

Season memberships are $120 per team or $168 for tickets to home games for both the men’s and women’s teams.

Nicole’s Trick or Trot 5K set

The UMaine swimming and diving team on Sunday, Oct. 30, will host “Nicole’s Trick or Trot 5K,” in memory of the late Nicole Langlois, a former Black Bears swimmer who lost her battle with cancer on Sept. 15.

The first annual race will begin on UMaine’s Beckett Family Track track at 10 a.m. and loop onto the paved bike path before returning back to the finish line on the track.

All proceeds from the race will be donated to Make-A-Wish Maine in Langlois’ memory. The race is Halloween themed and individuals are encouraged to come dressed in costume.

Normal race clothing also is acceptable. The race is open to children and adults of all ages.

Awards will be given out to the top runners in each male and female age category along with best individual costume and group costume.

Special T-shirts will be sold at the race for $10, with all proceeds from sales going directly to Make-A-Wish. The cost is $20 per person, and registration begins at 9 a.m. on race day.

To register, visit nicolestrickortrot.racewire.com.

Donations in Langlois’ name will continue to be accepted at gofundme.com/2sje438?elinkdata=421356&.
