BANGOR, Maine — A local couple who admitted earlier this year that they allowed their Essex Street trailer in 2014 to be used by drug dealers from New York as a place to sell and store drugs in exchange for heroin were sentenced this week in both federal and state courts.
Daniel Lyons, 42, of Bangor, who pleaded guilty in March to maintaining a drug-involved premises, was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court to three years in federal prison. His wife, Laura Lyons, 31, of Bangor, who pleaded guilty to the same charge in April, was sentenced Monday to two years in federal prison.
On Tuesday, they also both pleaded guilty to Class B drug trafficking charges in state court. He was sentenced to two years in prison and she was sentenced to one year in prison. The judge ordered the couple serve the state sentences at the same time they are serving the federal sentences.
They also were ordered to each pay a $400 fine.
The state charges stemmed from the couple’s involvement in 2015 with drug dealers from Connecticut whom they allowed to operate out of their home in exchange for heroin, according to court documents.
In federal court, the couple was ordered to serve three years of supervised release each following their federal prison terms.
Daniel Lyons had been held without bail since March. Laura Lyons had been held without bail since April. That time will be applied to their federal sentences.
On the federal charges, each faced up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $500,000. On the state charges, each faced up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.
